Good morning Franklin Families,
I hope you are enjoying the summer vacation. I am reaching out to you to share the latest budget information regarding the School District. Despite our efforts, we have been unsuccessful in securing significant funding increases from the City Council to close the 2.25 million dollar budget gap.
Nevertheless, at the School Board meeting last night, I was able to present a plan that the Board approved to restore funding for:
-85% of the Athletic Program
-All Extracurricular Programs
- A Music Teacher at the middle and high school
-A Middle School Teacher at Grade 7 to reduce class sizes from 27 students/class to 18.
These additions were made primarily by reallocating grant funds and leveraging personnel changes over the last two weeks.
The athletic budget is short, approximately $30,000. We are partnering with the Boosters organizations at both the middle and high school and will begin fundraising efforts soon. We ask that all families of athletes prepare to volunteer and support our athletics teams so we can close this funding gap so we do not need to consider a "pay for play" program in the district.
